Hundreds of empty bowls painted for Saturday fundraiser

Artists at the Peer Recovery Art Project in Modesto have been hard at work, painting bowls for a benefit for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The benefit, set for Saturday, is the fifth annual event. It will include a cocktail hour, silent auction, wine raffle and dinner. Displays will showcase the programs and services available through Second Harvest, which serves the needy in Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties.

The empty bowls are meant to serve as a visual reminder of those who go without food. They will be on display for the Thursday night Art Walk at 1222 J St. from 5 to 9 p.m.

Money raised will go toward new cold storage for the food bank’s Manteca facility. Having better cold storage will allow food bank staff members to be more efficient at storing perishable items such as meat, dairy and produce.

The benefit will begin at 6 p.m. at Sysco Warehouses, 136 Mariposa Road, Modesto. Tickets to the event are $75 each and can be purchased at www.localfoodbank.org.
